Blog 5 - 9 to 1

Tuesday - Skagway

Hi guys – we were sailing through the night & awoke in Skagway, a picturesque little town that just happens to have the 9 men to each woman ratio; so I said a formal goodbye to Sam but maybe spoke a bit too soon…they all look like grizzly bears! – well the dress sense is anyway . After a quick discussion about how we could work this 'living in Alaska thing' Sammy has decided that Juneau is her town (I am happy with any of them) so we both need a bloke with a boat & a sea plane so we can get together on the weekends.

Skagway has quaint streets but they are lined (back to back) with high end jewellery shops or souvenir shops housing goods such as ‘Daniel Boon’ type hats actually made from real Raccoons’! I was very upset but took a photo anyway! Oh & of course more tourists than you can poke a stick at from ummm dirty big cruise ships. Oh riiiight! LOL.

Strolling around Skagway, we realized just how much walking we had done in the forest the day before as we were both moaning of aching legs & feet that seeking out a sugar daddy was the last thing on our minds.

I had a bit if a run in with a Gent who worked in one of the jewellery stores who on hearing that I was only looking not going to purchase said to me ‘oh, if you can afford to be on a cruise ship then you can afford to buy our jewellery’ – of course I went him! How rude to assume that so I told him right off & he was suitably embarrassed by the time I had finished with him!

Hi everyone,

Skagway is much smaller than Juneau which I prefer as it was prettier I think & easier to get to the whales & forest . But there are still 4 ships in port today & it doesn't really look like we should all fit but it all works well. We had a great day walking around the town & I did buy a couple of things. Trying to limit my spending to things I wouldn't get at home or probably won't see again so really haven't spent much yet & hanging out to buy some new clothes. No worries, we'll be in the US soon & then I'll need to start searching for another case!

Everyone we meet is just so nice & very helpful which is good as my sense of direction seems to be getting worse as I get older, along with everything else. The season is just about over so the shop owners are pushing very hard to get rid of their stock as they get taxed on what's left over. My eyes kind of glazed over at the mention of tax & I went to my happy place!

Sandie extremely happy with the men to women ratio, may lose her to the wilds of Alaska before the end of the week. Bit to far & away for me but will definitely be looking to come back, it's just beautiful everywhere you look.

Big hugs, Sammy xxx
