As I debated the best way to make it to Monaco from Barcelone, car rental seemed to be the best option. Trains did not go this route very easily and planes were expensive when I would still need a car when I got there.
So, Jim Hand and I venture off to Monaco from Barcelone out of the congested city trying our best to understand the foreign road signs. It was a little difficult as we left during rush hour, but we did pretty well. Reaching our first toll, we were surprised at the prices. We would pay $10, then $25, then $5...they were not cheap. The hills were great to see and experience. We arrived to a town called Avignon and stopped for dinner. It had castles and historic architecture surrounding the city. We had a quick French dinner, Lasagne, before heading on.
Getting to nice at 2 AM or so, I was exhausted. Our hotel was a no frills hotel that had a self automated check in. When you put in your credit card, you got a pin number for a specific room. Pretty simple.
Staying just outside Nice, we continued on the next morning to reach Monaco in time for the 4PM time trial.
