Ang Thong National Marine Park

Ko Samui, Surat Thani, Thailand
We had a really early start to the day as by 7:30am we were ready and waiting for our taxi to Na Thon pier for our trip to 'Ang Thong National Marine Park'. As we boarded the 'Blue Stars' boat we had to pose for a photograph, much to our delight at 8am! It took about two hours to reach Ang Thong, which means 'Golden Bowl', where we stopped for a swim. We were brave enough to jump off the boat, but in the water little sea lice stung our skin. Ang Thong itself was a picture-perfect archipelago made up of forty-two small islands. We even got the chance to kayak around some of the sheer limestone cliffs, some of which towered four hundred metres above our head, where we saw some weird shaped rocks, one in particular looked like a face. We also saw a monitor lizard on our journey. We got back on board the boat and sailed through the 'Marine Park' whilst having a Thai buffet lunch. We then did a bit more kayaking, ending up at Ko Mae Ko. It was a bit of a steep, unsteady climb to the emerald saltwater lake known as Tha-le Nai or 'Inland Sea' which was the inspiration for the 'The Beach' book and subsequent film. It really was picturesque and not surprisingly they were not allowed to use it during filming for fear of spoiling the place. We spent some time on the white sand beach before swimming back out to the boat.

On our way back to Ko Samui we had our own private sun deck, whilst we ate banana cake and fresh fruit . My quote of the day was, "Gir up there flying fish!" We spotted a few of them skimming across the water for quite some distance. I also had a Kate Winslet moment on the front of the boat.

Once we got back to 'Green Villa' we had to change to a different room but it was cheaper and much more cheerful as it looked like it had just had a fresh lick of paint. The only downside was that it had a cold shower. We made a trip to a 7 Eleven to buy some pot noodles but we also ended up buying a packet of Oreo biscuits, a large bottle of SangSom and a bottle of coke. We then went down to the beach to have a drink. It was nice and peaceful until some scruffy dogs turned up and wouldn't leave us alone. They literally drove us off the beach in the end. In our bungalow, we set the Love Star away to boil and I couldn't wait to eat my B10 chicken rice pot. However, I had been misled somewhat as what I had thought was rice turned out to be 'Instant Porridge - Chicken Flavour' which as you can imagine tasted nasty.
