The cat that said uh-oh...

Ko Mak, Thailand
We awoke to a scratchy noise on the roof of our bungalow. I was surprised that we had not yet encountered any wildlife, so I was now a bit concerned as to what would make such a noise in the hours of daylight! I stayed well inside the mosquito net, which literally made me feel invincible to the outside world! The noise got louder as if something was banging on the tin roof and then suddenly a small cat dropped into our bungalow. As I am not a huge cat fan I made Andrew step outside of the comfort zone of the mosquito net to remove the thing. It tried but failed to go back out the way it came and even made the noise "uh-oh" as it struggled and started getting scared. Andrew eventually lifted it outside with a look of caution on his face but it then just sat at the door bemused.

We got ready and had a long walk to the pier at the other end of the island where 'Ball Cafe' was recommended by the Rough Guide . It was ridiculously hot and the grass by the roadside was covered in masses of whiteness, which turned out to be spiders webs. This meant I spent the whole walk staring at the grass expecting one to jump out at me at any minute. It turned out that the only spider we spotted was in a web attached to a power cable, safely up a height away from us, but it was a beast all the same. Finally, a bucket of perspiration later, we reached 'Ball Cafe' or what used to be 'Ball Cafe' as it was now closed! We have started to lose faith in the Rough Guide. After a sweaty walk back to 'Island Huts' we packed our beach bag and spent the rest of the day on Ao Kao beach. I spent most of my time reading 'The Beach' whilst Andrew found better things to do with his time, primarily using his tripod to film tiny crabs scuttling across the sand and into a hole they had dug. David Attenborough eat your heart out!

The budget continued today with a B45 lunch each, followed by a nice cold shower. We walked up the main street for some internet action but ended up in 'Beach Cafe' again as the only other internet shop was closed. We had a rather scary walk back along the beach in the dark to eat at our restaurant.
