Maria finally set us free...ish

Trat, Thailand
It was the first morning in a while that I hadn't been woken up at 6am! We got ready and made our way downstairs to the 'Insurance Desk', fully expecting that everything would by now have been processed and we could be on our way. However, the lady dealing with our claim had still not received the confirmation letter from our 'Insurance Company' to guarantee payment of my hospital bill. This meant another day of waiting around, but we couldn't spend another minute in the same room so we decided to have a walk into Trat. We had to leave our passport at the hospital as a ransom to us returning as the bill was still outstanding!

It was so hot outside, especially after spending the past few days in an air-con room, so I didn't fancy too much of a walk. We soon came across the one street of backpacker places to stay and had some breakfast before having a slow walk back to the hospital. There was a slight update in that my 'Insurance Company' had contacted my GP and were apparently waiting to hear back from them to confirm that I didn't have a related existing medical condition before I left the country. I decided to ring my GP to see if I could speed up the process, but they told me they hadn't even received any documentation with regard to my claim! I was furious but couldn't do much about it, so we continued to wait and eventually at 7pm, 34 hours after first contacting the 'Insurance Company', they sent the guarantee of payment to the hospital. We were finally able to leave, but as it was quite late we were allowed to stay another night at the hospital free of charge. We thought everything was sorted but we were informed that we had to pay the excess even though I was admitted to hospital for an on-going problem. Andrew rang to explain this matter and spoke to a lady called Maria, whom we had spoken to whilst I was in hospital the first time round. In short, she was far from helpful and pretty much tried to make everything worse. Andrew kept asking to speak to her manager but she kept refusing as she clearly knew she was wrong. She eventually dropped the excess charge after talking down to Andrew and not letting him speak for most of the phone call.

We were starving so we had to order something out of the hospital restaurant. We both got a 'Set 14', which set us back B470! The sweet and sour chicken we ordered came as fish, even though I pointed to the word chicken on the menu. Andrew got himself a few cans of Chang from the shop to drink whilst we watched the 'Deer-hunter' which was a rather sad film.
