Freedom Day

Trat, Thailand
We finally got to leave the hospital and even got a free lift to the backpacker street. We went to 'Pop Guesthouse' where we had eaten breakfast the day before to see if they had a room available. They had one for B300, but Andrew wanted somewhere ridiculously cheap even though we had just spent six nights free of charge in hospital! So, we walked further down the street and called in to a quirky little cafe called 'Cool Corner', though it wasn't on a corner, for breakfast. The menu was written onto a CD cover and the owner took our order on an i Pad. It was certainly a cool place! I then made Andrew go back to 'Pop Guesthouse' and take the B300 room. We had to wait a few minutes while the mosquito sprayed room became safe to enter. I would love some of the industrial spray as all the mosquitoes were sprawled out dead on the floor. It was the cleanest place we had stayed yet, but I suppose it was fairly new. We looked up Trat on the internet to see how we could spend our day, but the general consensus was that there was nothing really to fill in a day, although it was regarded as a nice Thai town! We had a walk along a concrete walkway beside the river Trat to look at the old wooden houses built on stilts over the river. We then chilled out at a little restaurant, which had a garden with a Mediterranean feel to it. We sat and played cards for a few hours whilst drinking Chang, my first Chang in too long. We even got an ice cooler for it, so we looked very classy having our beer in a nice silver cooler! The little side streets surrounding the restaurant were very picturesque, until a random Thai man strutted down the
street wearing nothing but a towel!

I felt the need to buy some new knickers so we had a wander to 'Trat Department Store' where they clearly didn't get many tourists visiting as all eyes were on us, though that may have been because we were a little tipsy! The trip turned out to be rather depressing though as they didn't stock any knickers in my size . Thai ladies are rather miniature in comparison to Westerners and so all the adult knickers looked like they would only fit twelve year olds! We had a siesta before heading back to 'Cool Corner' for something to eat. Andrew was foolish enough to ask for Tom Yam soup "spicy-spicy" and oh was it! His face turned redder by the minute as he struggled to eat it and even my Pineapple Curry was on the hot side. I also had the best banana and chocolate shake ever.
