Hammock Day

Chiang Mai, Thailand
We had Coco Balls for breakfast on our balcony whilst trying not to rip our skin off, as we got bitten to death by mosquitoes last night. I had around fifteen bites just on one leg! We had a walk to Boots to stock up on essentials, as I ran out of deodorant a week ago! I desperately wanted a loofah too but they were out of stock. We sold our old books and I got 'Memoirs of a Geisha' for lazy days. I fancied some fruit so I got a large orange from a street market. They clearly charged me farang rate, as it was B20 for the one orange! We had to do some hard bargaining for some sunglasses, but we eventually got two pairs for B250, as we did without the cloth cases which would have made it B300! Once we got back to our guesthouse we chilled out for the rest of the day in a hammock. We ate a cheap pot noodle from the 7 Eleven, which yet again just tasted of chilli in my opinion, but according to the packet it was 6% salt and 0.76% pork powder. So overall a well-balanced meal!

We went out later in search off the Night Bazaar, but on the way we spotted a McDonald's which was far too tempting, so we had a "McThai" but the fries were even saltier than the dreadful 7 Eleven pork flavoured pot noodle . We went to 'The Local' for a few Changs and played a couple of games of pool. Andrew started to get grumpy every time he missed a shot, which was quite regularly! I saw a rat come out of the toilet and then run along the bench on the wall, so we promptly left for another bar. We came across 'Chillout Bar' on the same street as our guesthouse. It wasn't exactly a bar as such as it was more of a hole in the wall with a few tables and chairs thrown out on the side street. A group of people were struggling to set off a Chinese lantern. Andrew went to pay our bill and ended up doing a little dance with a Thai man! We managed to watch the last fifteen minutes of 'Apocalypse Now' when we got back to our room.
