In search of the White Temple...

Chiang Rai, Thailand
Our alarm didn't go off again, which I was pleased about, but Andrew wasn't too happy as he was wanting us to go to the 'New Bus Station' early to sort out a bus to Bangkok. We eventually dragged ourselves out of bed and had lunch as it was way past breakfast. I had the best BLT sandwich on toasted bread and the bacon was even crispy and fat-free. We rented a moped and drove to the 'New Bus Station' which was only a ten minute drive away. It was the first time Andrew had driven on the mainland and so I was a little concerned that we had to do a U-turn on Highway 1, using a bus as a shield! Anyway, once we got outside of the town centre it was an open road, surrounded by lush green landscape and barely any traffic. We reached the 'New Bus Station' and booked the 7:30am bus to Bangkok for the following day. We got back to Chat House and arranged everything else for our southbound trip.

We then headed back out on the moped in search of the 'White Temple' as it is now known in Thailand . I "read" the map and knew which road we had to take, so we set off. There was a sign on the road for the temple so I knew we were heading the right way. This was what I thought anyway, but 13km later there was still no sign of the temple and we had not seen another sign on the road. We called it a day, after a side road failed to reveal the temple, and headed back to the town centre. We couldn't resist the temptation of 'Swensen's Ice Cream Parlour' for the second time. I opted for the 'Chocolate Ring-A-Ding-A-Ling' which was heaven on earth and I didn't want it to end. When we got back to our room I started packing ready to leave early the next morning, whereas Andrew just stared into space. I asked him if he was going to start packing but he said he couldn't as there was a certain way he needed to pack his bag. He is certainly OCD about his bag packing! We sat downstairs in the restaurant in silence as I wrote up our Blog and Andrew downloaded games onto his phone ready for the mega long bus journey.
