Bangkok #3

Bangkok, Thailand
I woke up and immediately realised that something wasn't quite right, so I asked Andrew what time it was and he shot out of bed to find his phone. He had set an alarm for 6:25am, but his phone was switched off so no alarm had gone off. It turned out to be 7am and our bus to Bangkok left at 7:30am! We frantically packed up our remaining stuff, which meant that Andrew pretty much had the whole of his back to pack! I went downstairs to see if our Tuk Tuk was waiting but there wasn't one in sight. We were over ten minutes late so it may have got sick of waiting. I decided I had best ask the owner to ring and ask a different one to come and pick us up just in case. A blue songthaew turned up and nailed it along Highway 1, as the driver clearly realised we were supposed to be getting the 7:30am bus to Bangkok. We arrived with literally two minutes to spare, so I paid the driver whilst Andrew went to find the right bus. It was the most luxurious bus yet and it was virtually empty, so we sat downstairs at the front where there was plenty of legroom. We got a complimentary box as it was a Government Bus, which contained the usual tea, coffee, sugar and water as well as a piece of marble cake and a 'Cool Fit' juice drink.

We didn't stop at a service station until six hours had passed, so we were both starving by this point . We went to have a look at the trays of food on offer and decided it was going to be a pointing game. However, the lady behind the food counter asked for our bus ticket. We were a little confused, but it turned out that you got a free meal as part of your journey! We couldn't believe it, but we got a plate of rice and a spoonful of Green Curry. We thought we had best buy a snack for the rest of the journey in case we didn't make another stop, so we got a bag of potato fries that actually contained two packets of tomato ketchup so that you could dip your "fries" in ketchup!

We arrived at Bangkok right on time at 7pm after I had watched three films in total. We couldn't work out how to get out of the 'Mo Chit Bus Terminal' so we ended up at the back of the taxi rank, which meant we had to walk through row upon row of waiting taxi until we reached the front. We got a taxi to 'Hualamphong Train Station' and booked a ticket to Chumphon for the following day. We then jumped in a Tuk Tuk which took us to 'TTII Guesthouse' situated in a back alley. It wasn't the most welcoming place and the room reminded me of a prison cell, but it was only for one night! We struggled to find anywhere close by to eat, so ended up at a street food vendor. We also bought some Chang to drink whilst watching 'Donnie Darko' but we both fell asleep before the end.
