Beach Night...

Ko Phayam, Ranong, Thailand
We didn't have a great sleep, as we clearly need to get used to the noisy wildlife outside. At around sunrise the crickets went crazy, screeching ridiculously loud which woke us up. We eventually got up at around 10:30am and had a refreshing cool shower in our brilliant blue bathroom. We had breakfast in our restaurant before we set off walking into the village. We were in search of a moped and finally managed to get one from a crazy cat lady. Andrew was just about to sit on it when a lens fell out of his fake Ray Ban sunglasses, which he bought especially for riding a moped in the sun! As we drove around the island we noticed a particular red fruit all over the place and you could smell it fermenting in the heat. I thought it was the same fruit I had eaten in Bangkok-Trat hospital. There were also some extremely large bee hives hanging off trees, which suggested the bees must also be extremely large! We had a drive to 'Sabai Sabai' to check out the bungalows as we nearly booked one before we came to the island. There was no owner around at the time but the place looked very cool and chilled out. We then went to 'PP Land' but it was far too expensive, charging B35 for one coke. We tried 'Sabai Sabai' again and the owner, James an English guy, was there this time getting a haircut. The only bungalow he had available was a cheap B200 one which did not have an en-suite. We took a look at it though and it was nicely decorated with a few modern touches so we said we would have it for the following night.

We then headed to 'Vijit' bungalows on Ao Kao Kwai beach for the advertised 'Beach Olympics' that were taking place in order to raise money for the small school on the island . We didn't partake as we were more taken by the whitest, softest sand we had ever seen in our life, it was honestly like walking on talcum powder. We took in the scenery for a while then went to 'Horizon' for something to eat. I opted for something out of my comfort zone and chose pumpkin and fried egg which was rather tasty. We fancied a drink after having a Chang or two during the afternoon, so we bought a big bottle of SangSom from the shop, along with coke and ice, and took it down to the beach to watch the sunset. We ended up spending hours on the beach just listening to music and gazing up at the very bright stars in the sky!
