Raw Egg Day

Ko Phayam, Ranong, Thailand
We are becoming so lazy and could quite happily lie in bed all day, but we dragged ourselves up and got ready. We had to go next door to eat breakfast as our owners had already left. Andrew was served raw "soft-boiled" eggs that he obviously couldn't eat so he asked for them to be cooked for a bit longer, the poor Thai lady was so apologetic. She brought the eggs out two minutes later so we both looked at each other as if to say that was quick. She had actually cooked new eggs and so again when Andrew cracked open the top of one it was just as raw! He didn't have the heart to tell her as she clearly didn't understand what he had meant the first time round. We drove to the supermarket to get a bottle of SangSom, a bottle of coke and some biscuits as I was craving some chocolate. We chilled out on our veranda, as it was another fairly cloudy day and the weather seemed unpredictable as it rained a little earlier. We realised we would need another bottle of coke so jumped on the moped and headed back to the supermarket, but on the way the moped came to a fairly sudden halt. The petrol gauge wasn't on the red but when we were renting it the man did look inside the fuel tank to check whether it was empty. So we came to the conclusion that the gauge mustn't work and it was out of petrol. We set off walking and got a bottle of gasoline, along with some crisps to snack on and the bottle of coke. The moped worked after we filled it up so I don't know how we will prevent the same thing from happening another day!

We started playing cards on our veranda and as I was demonstrating my excellent shuffling technique I managed to drop a card through a crack in the wooden floor . As our bungalow was raised up a height, it was a little swampy on the ground after the rain yesterday. Andrew had to be a brave boy whilst stepping under the deck to retrieve the card. We started eating the other half of the watermelon but Andrew started spitting it out. The half that had been exposed to the air tasted a bit rotten but the rest was fine. We also sampled some mangos that we got from a basket by the roadside that were free for anyone. They were the sweet kind and tasted exactly like a solero ice lolly, so we decided we would be taking advantage of that free fruit again tomorrow. As if I hadn't eaten enough I continued to eat the biscuits, but as I put one in my mouth something stung my tongue. I glanced down at the other half of the biscuit in my hand and it was covered in ants, so I was the one spitting my food out this time.

We strolled along the beach as the sun was setting before coming back to eat at the raw egg restaurant, thinking that the Thai food would be a better option. This was an error of judgement as my sweet and sour tasted of nothing, it was simply fried vegetables and a bit of pineapple with no sauce and the soup Andrew got was bland. I want our nice owners to return to cook us some tasty Thai food!
