Phuket, Thailand
We woke up before our alarm and it felt quite cold for once. Andrew braved the freezing cold shower before taking me to the pier with my backpack. I sat in 'Multi Kulti' and had breakfast while he went to pick up his backpack and return the moped. We walked along the pier to the boat which was far better than the one we got to the island. It actually looked like a passenger boat as it had wooden benches on the deck, whereas the other boat seemed more like a produce boat! It also turned out to be a fair bit faster. Andrew tried desperately to get a good shot of a white-bellied sea eagle but missed every time! We arrived at Ranong and walked to the main road to get a songathew to the Bus Station. We booked the 12:30pm bus to Phuket and then went to a cool little coffee shop for a home-made sandwich. The bus arrived but it was pretty full and there was only one free seat, so Andrew had to stand for the best part of two hours until we stopped for a break and a few people got off. The bus stopped at a checkpoint and an army officer came on board to check every passengers ID card or passport. He looked at my photo and pulled a rather confused face as if to say it wasn't me. I could feel myself getting anxious but all I said was that it was me! It may have been because I now had a tan so looked different. He just kept staring into my eyes but eventually handed me back my passport and went through the same process with Andrew. The bus played a ridiculously annoying Thai pantomime TV programme, so I couldn't wait for the journey to be over. The weather turned grey outside and it started to rain quite heavy. We finally reached the Bus Station and walked to the 'Old Town Hostel' which wasn't too far away. We got to our room which was a bit dull as it didn't have a window, but it was clean. We were starving so went out in search of a place to eat. We came across a cool, arty bar so ordered some food and a Chang. The art decor inside consisted of old-skool toys and furniture. I also couldn't resist an oreo smoothie as my mouth was on fire after eating a Green Curry. There were a number of Thai people in the bar watching the Liverpool football match and they jumped for joy when they scored, so yet again we were stunned so find so many Thai Liverpool supporters going crazy!
