Leo Day

Krabi Town, Thailand
I had a long lie in until 12:15pm, whilst Andrew was up at 9am as he couldn't get comfortable enough to go back to sleep in the rock hard bed. It was yet again raining outside and it was very cloudy so it didn't look like it was going to get any better throughout the day. I crossed my fingers as I went to try the bathroom tap, but had no such luck, so it was our third day without any water! The electricity also went off just as we started boiling the kettle to make a coffee! We decided to go and see if anywhere could make us any sort of food, even a sandwich. We went to 'May & Mark' and luckily the electricity had just come back on so things were looking good on the food front. However, Andrew realised he had left the kettle plugged in so had to run back to our guesthouse to unplug it otherwise there would no doubt have been an electrical disaster. We got a pizza and some chips as we were in desperate need of some comfort food and we washed it down with a Chang. We saw a Thai lady over the road getting a shower fully clothed under a waste water pipe that was spilling out rain water! There were also buckets and the odd baby bath lining the streets to collect the rain water. We returned to our guesthouse and the owner must have been able to tell we were a little frustrated so she offered us some bananas if we were hungry and couldn't get any food! Our guesthouse owner also ran the local radio station and she had a group of people appealing for aid to help those affected by the flooding, particularly further south where people had been killed by a mudslide. There was a constant influx of fresh drinking water, blankets, bags of rice and other supplies being collected in the lobby of our guesthouse before being transported to the affected areas further south. We didn't quite realise the extent of the situation and I started to feel bad about constantly complaining about not being able to get a shower.

We went to buy some more Chang at the 7 Eleven as we couldn't do much but sit inside, but as it was before 5pm we weren't allowed to buy any because of the strange alcohol selling laws in Thailand . It is against the law to sell alcohol at a shop between the hours of 2pm and 5pm. So, we went back after 5pm but they had sold out of Chang so we had to make do with Leo and I also got myself a questionable looking chocolate brownie cake. We ran out of beer so made our third trip of the day to the 7 Eleven and Andrew decided to try something different that was obviously too cheap to taste nice. It turned out it tasted like a mix of cider and wine, so needless to say he didn't bother drinking it! He went to the toilet quite late and ran back to tell me that we had water before going to have a shower. I was half asleep so decided I would just wait until the morning...
