Air Asia

Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia
We got up quite early for a change, got ready and packed up our remaining stuff before checking out. We walked round to 'Good Dream' for breakfast, where Andrew bravely picked a sausage instead of bacon on his English breakfast. The menu claimed not to serve a hot-dog and call it a sausage as everywhere else had done in Thailand. It looked more like a sausage and Andrew reckoned it tasted like a real sausage but it still looked like a German sausage to me. We went to wait for the 'Airport Shuttle Bus' and after a few minutes we saw it drive past us, but on the opposite side of the road! We looked at each other in panic and just hoped it would come back on the other side of the road. It did a few minutes later and it was packed, so we had to squeeze onto the back row of seats in and amongst some luggage. It was ridiculously hot even though there was supposed to be air-con, but it just seemed to blow out warm air! One passenger started giving abuse to the driver every time he stopped to pick up another passenger as he reckoned he was going to be late and miss his flight. We arrived at 'Krabi International Airport' and the security check took place immediately before you even entered the terminal building. Andrew beeped as he walked through and the security officer waved her detector over his body which beeped but that didn't seem to bother her as she did nothing about it! There wasn't many facilities in the airport and we were too early to check in so we just found a seat. We then checked in our baggage which was far lighter than we thought, so although we had paid the charge for extra-large baggage we could have just paid for medium baggage! We went into the one and only departure gate which was crammed full of people as one flight was delayed for four hours, luckily not the one to Kuala Lumpur!

We were soon ready to board and we nervously looked around outside for our plane to check whether it looked remotely safe! I was looking for a red one as we were flying with Air Asia, but it turned out to be green and yellow . It luckily didn't have propellers so we felt a bit more at ease. There wasn't much leg room but the plane wasn't full so we ended up with an empty seat next to us. We set off around twenty minutes early as everyone was on board and the flight only took one hour and twenty minutes so it was over really quickly. However, there was a little bit of turbulence at one point which got our adrenaline pumping! We landed at the LCCT (Low Cost Carrier Terminal) which was basically a terminal for Air Asia. It was a short walk to the 'Immigration Checkpoint' which made me feel nervous, as they stare at you and are so straight faced, but as usual there was no problem and we got a 90 day stamp in our passport. We saw our backpacks already moving around the conveyor belt so we quickly collected them and went to get the 'Star Shuttle' bus to KL city centre. It was quite a long journey as we got stuck in the six lane traffic! We got dropped off at 'Puduraya Bus Station' and attempted to work out where we were on our map. The streets were bustling with people and it had a good vibe to the place as we walked along Jalan Sultan and found 'Transit Point' where we had booked to stay . We received a very friendly, warm welcome and we were sold on taking an air-con room instead of a fan room as it was ridiculously hot. Our room was very sparse in that it only contained a double bed! However, it was very clean, perhaps because the place was fairly new. We literally dropped our bags and went out to eat. We walked down 'Petaling Street' which was a covered market selling the usual fake watches, handbags and DVDs. It was a little claustrophobic as so many stalls were squeezed together so that there was barely room for two people to walk down side by side. We didn't quite get hassled as much as we did when we walked down Khao San Road, but it still had the same sort of feel to the place. It opened up a little at the far end but we still hadn't come across any street food vendors and we were starving. However, there was a bright yellow sign in front of us that caught our eye, so we went inside to McDonald's. We wandered back to our room and decided what we would like to do first tomorrow as there was so much on offer in Kuala Lumpur!
