Petronas Twin Towers

Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia
We woke up on time today to get our complimentary breakfast which consisted of toast, butter, jam and coffee. I suppose it was better than nothing! We got ready and set off walking towards the 'Petronas Twin Towers' which seemed to be quite far away but Andrew reckoned they were within walking distance. On the way we walked past the 'Menara Tower' which is situated in Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve and is 421 metres tall. This is a communication tower which also has an observation desk which allows you to look out over the city. We continued walking and after crossing some very busy main roads we reached the 'Petronas Twin Towers' which are the world-renowned icon of modern Malaysia. It is weird to have such a diverse mix of modern high-rise buildings alongside colonial buildings within the same city. The 'Petronas Twin Towers' were completed in 1998 and were until recently the tallest buildings in the world until they were overtaken by Taipei 101, which was completed in 2004. They have a grand total of 88 floors, eight being a lucky number to Malaysia’s Chinese population. The building itself is made mainly out of glass and steel so it looked very dazzling in the sun. We went inside Tower 2 to look around the 'Suria KLCC Shopping Mall' which occupied the bottom six floors. The first shop we saw when entering was Tiffany & Co. Andrew said the doorman would turn his head and look the other way if I tried to enter so we carried on walking! We then came across Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and many more designer shops in the mall. We only dared have a look inside Topshop, Topman, Mango and Zara, which were slightly more within our budget. We both found it really frustrating not being able to buy anything! We strolled around the four floors of shops and then decided to get a McDonald's as it was one of the cheapest things to eat. We went to the 'Information Desk' to enquire about the skybridge on the 41st floor, which connected Tower 1 and Tower 2, as you could visit it for free, but there were no tickets left so we left a little disappointed. There is apparently a limit of 1,700 tickets a day so I imagine you must have to get there very early to secure a ticket.

We then set off towards Bukit Bintang, a bustling area of Kuala Lumpur . We walked past the 'Pavilion Shopping Mall' which again housed the likes of Gucci and Prada. If I was rich I wouldn't be for long living in KL, as there are so many shops and so many things to buy! There was a 'Liuli Crystal Fountain' near the main entrance of the 'Pavilion Shopping Mall' which featured the Hibiscus, Malaysia’s national flower, which is a symbol of opulence, passion and progression. The three bowls that constituted the fountain represented Malaysia’s multi-racial culture of living harmoniously. A random passer-by kindly offered to take a photo of us together in front of the fountain. We then continued walking down Bukit Bintang, taking in the very chic and bustling atmosphere. I spotted another Zara and as we hadn't spent much I went in and treated myself to a black skirt. We walked back to Chinatown in the blazing sun, as it seemed to have gotten hotter as it got later in the day. We collapsed on the sofa in the communal area as our feet were aching after walking for around five hours all across the city. We watched a film and then went to 'Tang City Food Court' for something cheap to eat.
