The long train journey south...

Chumphon, Thailand
I woke up at 7:20am feeling a little worse for wear after drinking three large bottles of Chang last night. I tried to sleep off my hangover but I also had a mild case of sickness and diarohhea! This wasn't going to be a good day as we had a long journey ahead of us! We checked out when I felt safe enough to move and we got a Tuk Tuk to 'Hualamphong Train Station'. We stocked up on some food supplies for the eight hour train journey to Chumphon. Andrew bought a 'Cheese & Ham' bun from the fake Greggs but it just tasted of sugar. He was also kind enough to buy me a 'Chocolate Croissant' for later when I felt like eating. I thought I could eat some fruit so bought the juiciest watermelon ever! We went to the platform and found our coach. We had opted for a 2nd class ticket so had a leather seat that was fairly soft in comparison to the 3rd class hard seat we had last time we got a train. However, the coach still only had a few ceiling fans and it was boiling! I couldn't wait to get off the train and it seemed to take forever. There were people constantly walking up and down the coach selling food and drink. One man tried really hard to get Andrew to buy a can of Chang by holding a freezing cold can on his arm! The journey ended up taking eight and a half hours in the end, but we eventually arrived at Chumphon and started looking around for Suda who had agreed to pick us up from the train station. There was no sign of her anywhere, even though we had no idea what she looked like, so Andrew rang her. She said she had been too busy to collect us so we had to walk instead. Another traveller was also waiting to be picked up by her so we walked together and it only took ten minutes or so.

Our room was on the top floor and it was spotless . There were only a handful of rooms in Suda's own house so it was more of a home-stay set up. It was already bed time but we were starving so we went in search of a place to eat. We pretty much walked in a circle and ended up at a restaurant opposite the train station called 'Papa Seafood'. Andrew ordered catfish, which tasted as bad as it looked as it was full of bones and tasted of the sea! I also had a really average tasting meal, but I guess it was food and we soon headed back to bed.
