Will we ever reach Cherating...

Cherating, Pahang, Malaysia
We got up and packed the rest of our stuff before walking in the scorching sun to 'Kuala Lumpur Train Station'. We got a train to Putra and then walked to 'Putra Bus Station'. We got there in perfect time for a bus to Kuantan and it was the best bus we had been on so far. We sat on the top deck right at the front so had a good view of the lush jungle that we passed through as we traveled through the interior of Malaysia to the east coast. We arrived at 'Kuantan Express Bus Station' and we eventually managed to get a bus to Cherating after quite a bit of confusion. It cost us the same amount to get to Cherating, which was a thirty minute drive north,as it did to get to Kuantan from Kuala Lumpur, which was a three and a half hour journey across country! We had to wait an hour, so we bought a few snacks and went to wait on the platform for the bus. It turned out we waited for a long time as the bus turned up almost an hour late. We checked with the driver that we would be dropped off in the right place as it wasn't a popular destination. He just nodded but it was one of those moments when your not exactly faithful that they have understood a word you are saying! However, we stopped at the side of the road around thirty minutes later and the driver shouted 'Cherating' so we hadn't needed to worry. He pointed us in the right direction and so we set of walking down a side street. We soon arrived at the village and found 'Payung Guesthouse'. It was a nice little place set in a tidy garden. We had a wooden bungalow that they call a chalet in Malaysia and it has to be said that they are much stronger and aren't just pieces of driftwood nailed together like in Thailand. It was spotless inside and it even had a flush toilet.

I had read in the Rough Guide about a restaurant called 'Duyong' in the village which sold Chang beer, so I dragged Andrew to the end of the bay without telling him where we were going or why! However, we got there and it was shut! So we started walking along the beach but two stray dogs kept annoying us and I got scared as usual, so we walked back towards the main road . We stopped at a beach bar for a Tiger, but one can cost two pound! We are still struggling to accept the price of alcohol in Malaysia! We went for something to eat at a 'kedai kopi' which sold Malay food. I even ate noodles for the first time since I had food poisoning after eating a Pad Thai over a month ago. We crossed the road to 'Payung Cafe' and had another can of Tiger, which was a whole RM1 cheaper! There was a seating area overlooking the river which was quite nice. A little Malay girl came over to us and kept saying "take picture, take picture" over and over again as Andrew had been taking a picture of me as she walked past us. She clearly wanted to have a go so Andrew very reluctantly gave her the camera. He couldn't take his eyes off it as she kept clicking away! She asked me to take a picture of her and posed but ended up looking like the girl off 'The Ring' as she didn't once change her facial expression and had wet hair hanging down by her face! She eventually had enough of taking pictures and just wandered off. We got back to our chalet and it was quite dark. We were just checking the bathroom for any sign of movement or sound when Andrew jumped, as quite a large frog had jumped over his foot! The poor thing seemed scared and couldn't really escape so we opened the shower drain but it got stuck in it! I wasn't a fan so just closed the bathroom door in the hope that it would find a way out and be gone in the morning. We watched the 'The Social Network' under the comfort of our mosquito net before bed.
