Pulau Perhentian Kecil, Terengganu, Malaysia
We slept until 11am after having a rubbish sleep as we kept waking up because we felt cold! We didn't have a bed sheet and we were in a large barn with an open window, so this probably explained it. We had breakfast and then set off walking along the only trail on the island. We saw a few monitor lizards, one in particular made me scream as I didn't see it beside the path until it suddenly ran away at my feet! The trail followed the pristine coastline and the sea really was spectacularly clear. We reached Coral Bay, clearly named after all the broken coral washed up on the beach, and then had to ask somebody in a shop how to get to Long Beach. It turned out that we were right in front of the sign, so started walking along the trail that looked at first like a building site. We reached Long Beach, which had a nice stretch of sand and sparkling clear, blue sea. It really looked like paradise, albeit for the parasols that lined the beach. We went in search of a new place to stay as our bathroom was too disgusting and the owner wasn't exactly friendly and welcoming. We couldn't find anywhere cheap on Long Beach so started walking back towards Coral Bay.

We were just going to give up but we spotted a place called 'Aur Bay' which looked decent . It also turned out to be cheap at RM30 a night, half of what we were paying for our barn! The chalet looked alright, it was admittedly a bit run-down but we could cope with it so we told the owner we would be back in the morning. We ordered a taxi boat to collect us from Mira Beach at 10:30am the next day. We set off walking back to Mira Beach and by the time we got back we felt exhausted as we had walked around in the baking midday sun. We had a refreshing drink before hitting the beach to sunbathe for the rest of the afternoon. We spent some time on our huge veranda waiting for our restaurant to open, as yet again we were starving! We got beneath the comfort of our mosquito net ready for bed as Brian and his lady friend Brenda returned to inhabit our room.
