A pot of tea...

Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia
Our alarm went off at 7am which was a bit of a shock. After one press of the snooze button we managed to get up. There was no way either of us were getting a freezing cold shower so we just pulled on some clothes, packed our last few things and walked to the pier. We were the first to arrive after being told to make sure we were on the pier for 7:30am, even though the boat wasn't scheduled to leave until 8:00am. I literally couldn't keep my eyes open but we were finally told which boat to get on and set off for the mainland. I probably would have been asleep if it wasn't' for the occasional bump on the boat. A bloke met us at the pier and directed us to the 'Tour Agent' we had booked our bus ticket through so we could pay the final balance. However, we had no cash left and there was no ATM around so we had to explain that we would need to call at an ATM along the way! We left our luggage and went to a food stall for breakfast as we had an hour to wait before the minivan left. We got on the bus early so that we had the best seat at the front with the most leg room. We soon stopped at a garage so that we could use an ATM and everyone bought a few snacks for the journey. However, another half an hour down the road we stopped at a place that served a buffet lunch. We also had to change into a different minivan and as we weren't hungry, after eating crisps and chocolate, we just got into the new minivan and claimed the front seat again so we had some leg room! It was a slow journey to the Cameron Highlands but we eventually arrived in the late afternoon. The place we had booked to stay was nice and homely, named the 'Cameronian Inn' and although it was a shared bathroom it was spotlessly clean. We immediately sat down and ordered home-made scones and a pot of tea!

We were glad to find that the bed was nice and soft, which has luckily become more and more common since we left Thailand! We both had a hot shower which is always a luxury, especially as the temperature is quite cool in the Cameron Highlands . We got ready and for the first time had to wear long trousers and a jacket. We walked into the main street of Tanah Rata and looked for a 'Tandoori Restaurant' as they are well regarded in the small town. We soon found a few clustered together and ordered a curry and a Tiger beer! It was such a nice change even though it did mean eating rice! We went to a supermarket and couldn't quite believe the alcohol selection on offer! They had all kinds of beer and spirits which we hadn't seen in a long time and it was even fairly cheap in comparison to the other places in Malaysia we had visited. So, we bought a couple of cans of Bavaria, the cheapest beer in the shop and walked back to our room.
