I really fancy para-gliding...

Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia
We got up at around 11:30am and went in search of a cheap place to eat. We noticed that quite a few places were shut and although it was a Sunday it may have had something to do with the Public Holiday. Anyway, we found a place called the 'Breakfast Bar' and it was by far the cheapest place we had come across so far. They did simple Thai dishes for RM5 and the Western breakfast options weren't too expensive either, which is probably why it was so busy. It was a little past breakfast time so we got a sandwich instead and then headed down to the beach for an afternoon of sunbathing. The sand was white in colour but as it had rained during the previous night Andrew complained that it wasn't soft enough and so he was uncomfortable! The sun was beaming down from a bright blue sky but it didn't feel anywhere as near as hot as it had done on Pulau Perhentian Kecil so we managed to actually lie in the sun! The sea was green and you could see quite a few small islands from the shore that were fairly close, which were part of the Langkawi archipelago, which consists of ninety nine islands in total. There were a fair few water-sports taking place on the beach, but as usual the jet skis were bombing around far too close to the shore. We watched a man and a young girl take off para-gliding just as I said I quite fancied having a go, but as they came back to land they were too far inland so the parachute got caught on a palm tree and ripped, dropping them a good twenty feet to the ground with a bump. A number of people ran over to check that they weren't hurt. The people running the sport seemed more concerned that the parachute was damaged and as it was all going wrong in the first place they were just shouting at the man, rather than getting the boat man to go further out to sea so that they had more beach space to land. This episode obviously put me off! We went to get a drink and sat in the shade for a while. I really wanted to go in the sea to cool off but I had read that there were often jellyfish lurking around. I managed to dip my toes in on the first visit to the water, on the second I splashed the water over me and on the third I was brave enough to go in up to waist level! The sea wasn't clear and there were a few small waves, which made things worse as you obviously couldn't see if anything was in the water. However, after a whole minute I got out without a sting!

The sun disappeared as heavy cloud took over so we called it a day and walked back to our room . I grabbed a couple of mango's from the tree outside our room to let them ripen. It soon started to rain quite heavily so we just chilled out drinking coffee and milo! We went out for something to eat and found another Thai restaurant on the beach, but had to sit inside as it was still raining! The food was so good, my Tom Yam soup was actually better than some I had eaten back in Thailand itself so I can only assume it was a Thai chef! We walked back to our room, calling off for some of the same biscuits that we had discovered yesterday and chilled out before bed.
