Menara TV Tower

Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia
We got up and had breakfast before returning to bed. We just felt like having a pyjama day so we lay in bed and watched a film called 'Remember Me' which turned out to be really depressing and I felt a little traumatised after watching the end. We then got ready and walked to McDonald's but the place was full so he had to walk to the other one a little further away. It was also full of school children but we managed to find a seat. However, we were so disappointed as our Big Mac was stone cold and our fries were not salty whatsoever. Andrew was more disappointed as he got a large meal but ended up with the same amount of fries as me and they didn't do large milkshakes so he only got a medium one for the extra money! We returned to our room and chilled out until around 6pm when we set off for the 'Menara TV Tower' just in time for the sunset. On the way Andrew spotted a cat who seemed to disappear under the road but it had climbed into a drain and just sat there looking up at us. We saw the biggest tree leaves on our walk so Andrew made me pose for a photo right beside a busy road so I looked like a right idiot. We reached the base of forested Bukit Nanas on which the tower stands just as we heard thunder, which scared me somewhat as we were going to be 421 metres in the air! There was a free shuttle bus waiting to take us to the entrance, which was useful as it was a bit of a trek uphill to the base of the tower. The ticket price was more than what we had expected at RM45 as they only "sold" a package that included a visit to the 'Cultural Village' and a choice from either a pony ride, a visit to the animal zone or a ride in an F1 simulator. We didn't want to do anything else but it was part of the package so we had no choice but to pay the RM45 just for a visit to the observation deck. We were shown to the lift and were told that it would take a mere fifteen seconds to ascend the tower to the observation deck. It didn't feel fast but my ears kept popping and you could feel the change in air pressure. The view was fairly impressive, as you could walk around the circular deck to gain a 360 degree view right across the city. However, Andrew was a bit annoyed as the windows were a little dirty on the outside and this showed up on the photographs he was taking every minute or so! We watched the sun set behind the Titiwangsa mountain range. The glistening lights then emerged across the whole city and Bukit Bintang looked particularly impressive as it was colourfully lit up. We got the lift back down and there was a shuttle bus waiting to take us to the bottom of the hill.

We set off walking towards Bukit Bintang and knew we were there by the sheer number of touts outside massage parlours trying so hard to get business . We found the street called 'Jalan Alor' where all of the Chinese food stalls were lined up. We struggled to walk down the street as we had menus thrown under our noses after every few steps we took, but we continued so we could check out the best offer. We settled on a busy restaurant that served dishes for just over a pound and they had an offer on beer, which meant we got a free small bottle of Jaz beer when we bought a large bottle. We were ridiculously full as the portion sizes were very generous for the price, so we had a slow walk back to Chinatown via Puduraya Bus Station. We tried to book a bus ticket to Melaka but it was so busy and the only available bus was an executive coach which seemed a bit expensive so we left it for another day. We stopped at a street food vendor in Chinatown for another beer, but the lady seemed a bit confused as we didn't want any food! We watched the bustling street go by and then paid for our Carlsberg before calling at a supermarket to get a couple of bottles of Tiger beer and a bar of chocolate. We sat in the communal area of our B&B whilst drinking our Tiger and watching a really bad film.
