Turtle Photoshoot

Gili Trawangan, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia
We woke up at around 9:00am and had breakfast, but I felt a little hungover so struggled to eat the awesome banana and cinnamon pancake which made me feel a little guilty. Dean was determined to get footage of a turtle so we got on our bicycle and rode to 'Turtle Point' to snorkel. I felt too tired to get in the water so as Andrew, Dean and Sam got kitted out I found a quiet bamboo beach shack and fell asleep. The early morning rise was worth it as the tide was out and so the turtles were in shallower water. This meant Dean had his wish granted as Andrew managed to take his photo whilst he swam alongside a turtle. However, Sam left the water first as she saw a sea snake which rightly made her freak out! Andrew also saw a snake that was hiding amongst the coral. We then rode to the other good snorkeling spot further south on the island, but this time Sam also opted to sunbathe. We had to return the underwater camera so we rode to the harbour and went to the shop where the owner was clearly waiting for us as she was wanting to close the shop so she could spend the day on the beach. We were told to come back after 6:00pm to collect the photos on a CD. We then went for something to eat at a fairly cheap warung but the waiter had difficulty in taking our order! We were all completely shattered so we headed back to Gili Hideaway for an afternoon snooze. I didn't really manage to sleep all that much so Andrew and I watched Family Guy. It turned 6:00pm so Dean and Andrew went to collect the photos whilst Sam and I got ready. We then all gathered in our room to look at the photos but were sorely disappointed as there wasn't a single photo of a turtle! Dean was by far the most disappointed and so we came to the conclusion that the camera battery must have gone flat. However, Andrew went back to the start and for some reason a turtle photo popped up on the screen! As you can imagine Dean was overjoyed, although Andrew had chopped his head off almost every photo, except one really good shot. We went out for something to eat and Andrew had to re-order on more than one occasion because it was no longer available, so he ended up choosing a very average tuna sandwich. Once again Dean and I ordered the same dish, in this case an ABCLT, which was an avocado, bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato sandwich. The bacon and cheese were imported so they tasted like the real thing! We returned to Gili Hideaway and had a game of scrabble before retiring for the night.
