Beach Day

Sanur, Bali, Indonesia
We got up and ate breakfast before having a cool shower that took a while as the water pressure was so low. I packed our beach bag and we then set off for Sanur beach. We made a quick stop at 'Circle K' to buy a bottle of suntan lotion before following the sign to the beach. We had to walk through a restaurant to reach the beach as there didn't seem to be a separate path. The restaurant was suitably named the 'Bonsai Cafe' as it contained a courtyard full of Bonsai trees of many different shapes and sizes all immaculately pruned. We reached the beach but we were immediately disappointed as the sand was coarse and the beach itself was raised so the only flat section was directly in front of the walkway. We walked closer to the sea but the tide was out which meant that swimming was impossible and the beach had turned into a mud bank. However, we had to make the most of it so we placed our towel on the sand and I began reading to pass the time. The sun was high in the sky but the gentle breeze meant that I didn't realise I had a pink face until it was too late! We whiled away a couple of hours on the beach before we walked to 'Little Pond Homestay' to see if they had a room later in the week as they had WiFi and a swimming pool. A room was 200,000 rupiah without breakfast but we booked it just in case. We picked up our laptop before walking to a beach side warung to eat and use WiFi. It was the cheapest place we had found to eat in Sanur but the noodle soup we both ordered turned out to be a glorified pot noodle! We both received a toilet calling but they luckily had a clean facility to use. Andrew attempted to book a campervan to collect in New Zealand but he did not have his driving licence number, so he had to put it off for another day. We really wanted to sign up for a Mt. Batur sunrise trek but we didn't have suitable footwear, so we went in search of a Department Store. The only thing we came across was a 'Night Market' but the footwear looked like it would fall apart within a week.

We went to 'Lazer Sports Bar' to book our flight to New Zealand . It was a rather seedy looking place that was dimly lit and had the smell of a brewery and so the clientèle was predominantly male. We shared a Bintang and had something to eat but my tuna steak sandwich was as dry as a bone. We paid the bill and walked back to Coco Homestay to watch Family Guy.
