What happened to Sky Bar?

Ko Phangan, Thailand
We woke up fairly early at 8:20am as our bungalow soon warmed up as the sun rose higher in the sky. We had a nice hot shower and got ready for breakfast. I fancied banana porridge but my offer was declined so I re-ordered poached eggs on toast and Andrew ordered a bacon sandwich. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the bacon sandwich was huge. However, we got the tiniest cup of fresh coffee for around sixty pence. The only thing that was a little sub-standard for the price was the drink menu as all of the food we had sampled had been excellent. We rented a moped for the day and set off in search of a place to stay that offered free WiFi. We stopped for a bottle of fuel but the gauge didn't even flicker so we assumed it didn't work. Anyway, we pulled over at Ao Chao Phao as the beach was really nice. However, as it was low tide the sea retracted a few hundred metres and so it was unsuitable for swimming. We enquired at 'Seaflower' but the cheapest bungalow was B700 and there wasn't a single soul around, so we got the impression they stated a higher price just so we wouldn't stay and they could chill out! We drove into Thongsala and called off at Tesco Lotus. It was so cheap considering it was the only real supermarket on the island. We bought a huge bottle of water and I stocked up on deodorant. I had a quick look at the sunglasses on offer in the various shops around Thongsala but I didn't have the energy to bargain so I didn't even bother asking for a price. We headed back up the coast and stopped at 'Sea Garden 2' where we shown to a decent bungalow perched quite high on a rock overlooking the blue sea. It was a bargain at B300 as it had hot water and WiFi but there was no beach or pool so it would have meant we were a bit stuck. We continued north and checked out 'Ibiza Bungalows' which were set around a nicely maintained garden but the cheapest one was B500. In the end we decided to stay put for a little while as we had a nice bungalow and a pool.

We went to sit around the pool but the sun was scorching hot so we spent a fair bit of time in the water . We started to feel a little hungry so we went to the restaurant and ate a sandwich. We spent the rest of the afternoon beside the pool before we got showered and ready to drive to 'Sky Bar'. We literally had to drive over a hill to reach Haad Salad which was closer than we thought and we recognised the road that led to 'Sky Bar'. However, there was no longer a sign for the place and as we drove up the steep hillside it became clear that it had gone. A man turned around to look at us and probably wondered what on earth we were doing on the driveway of a house! We could only assume that the business had failed and so the owner had rented the place out as a holiday home. We were a little disappointed but we decided to go onto the beach and find an alternative place to eat. The sand was just as nice as last time! There were tables set up on the beach itself and the menu looked decent so we had a seat. The sun was starting to set and we could even see Ko Tao on the horizon as it was such a clear day. Andrew ordered 'No Name' and a small Chang whilst I had my all time favourite Sweet & Sour. My food didn't taste great but that may have had something to do with the fact that my throat was so sore and my nose was blocked so I probably couldn't taste properly. We jumped back on the moped before it got completely dark, but on the short drive back I nearly tipped us off as a cockerel flapping around in the undergrowth scared the hell out of me! We had a drink in our restaurant before heading back to our room as I felt chilly sat in the blowing wind. A fat, black cat had decided to follow us and sit on the table outside our bungalow, clearly after a bit of company. We called the thing Sid and we actually felt a bit sorry for it as it just sat purring and tried to play with us. We watched 'The Bourne Supremacy' film before bed.
