Ko Phangan, Thailand
I woke up at around 9:30am feeling worse than I had the previous day. I still had a headache and a blocked nose and my whole body hurt. I decided I needed to visit a pharmacy so once we were ready we rented a moped and drove towards Thongsala. We spotted a pharmacy along the way and I was just advised to take ibuprofen along with decongestion tablets, but I didn't think they would be that much help so I just bought the bright pink ibuprofen. We continued driving to Thongsala and stopped at 'Nira's Home Bakery' for breakfast. We both ordered the same thing, a scrambled egg, bacon and ham sandwich along with a fruit platter. I also had a nice cup of tea with genuine milk. I felt awful but after I had eaten I managed to swallow two huge ibuprofen tablets in the hope that I would start to feel better. We drove back to our room and I just lay on the bed as I had no energy. It was around 3:20pm when I started to feel much better and wanted a change of scenery so Andrew drove us to Ao Chaloaklam at the north of the island. It was a quiet, fishing place but the sand was powdery white. We walked along the beach until we came to a river that snaked in land. There was nobody around and the line of bungalows along the beach front seemed to be completely empty. We returned to our moped and stopped to buy a litre of fuel, but we only had a B1000 note so we had to turn around and get change at a 7-Eleven. The old Thai lady looked a little confused but she stood and waited by the side of the road for us to return. We then drove via the inland road to Thongsala to visit the Night Market. The awesome spring roll stall was situated in exactly the same place as on our last visit so we ordered four and then went to a different stall for a piece of chicken chest as it was advertised by the sign. We ate our vegetable spring rolls as we walked back to our moped, but a one-eyed dog caught a whiff so followed us all the way. It was rather disappointed when it got nothing. We made a quick chocolate stop at Tesco Lotus before driving back to our bungalow. Andrew failed to see the soft sand in the road as we made our way down the steep dirt track so he lost balance slightly which caused the bag on my lap to fall on the floor. It was lucky that the chicken chest managed to remain on the sheet of paper, so all was not lost! We went to sit in a shelter on the beach to eat our chicken but we were joined by a dog, then another and finally a poodle joined in the gathering. Andrew went to find a bin but before long one dog had removed the waste bag and was trying hard to get at our left over chicken bone. We walked to our room and chilled out for a while before going to the restaurant for a drink. Andrew had a Chang whilst I had a banana shake as I still felt a bit under the weather, even though the ibuprofen took the edge off. We returned to our bungalow later and I fell asleep straight away.
