Mini Island Tour

Ko Phangan, Thailand
We woke up and got ready before driving to 'Su Restaurant' for a sandwich. We were sat waiting for a while and I then noticed the owner of the restaurant driving away on a moped! We had no idea if we were ever going to get our sandwich but the owner returned and after another ten minutes or so our sandwich was served. The restaurant clearly didn't have everything on the menu stocked in the kitchen as it was low season, so we assumed the quick outing was to purchase bread. We returned to our bungalow and on the way along the dirt track we noticed a frog in a rather unusual position. It turned out to be dead and very crispy with one foot curled in the air! We chilled out by the pool for a few hours before deciding to go on an impromptu island tour. We took out the island map and set off for the Chinese Temple. A man poked his head out of a building when we pulled up the driveway but then continued with his daily business. The temple appeared to be rather unloved and it had seen better days for sure. The only thing that stood out was a dirty looking water feature, containing a shark and a mermaid. The viewpoint that we were expecting wasn't all that great either as all we ended up seeing was the tops of trees below in the jungle. We continued on our journey to 'Wat Khao Tham' which was up a steep track. We parked the moped and started walking through the temple complex, passing a nun who was sweeping up leaves and politely greeted us as we walked past. The whole place was a bit random and there were wooden signs pointing in every direction, but they were written in Thai only. We found a sign that pointed towards a viewpoint and after following it we ended up on a large boulder. The view looked right out over the island to the sea. We weren't entirely sure if we had reached the actual viewpoint as we hadn't walked far enough, but it was good all the same. We made our way back through the complex to our moped and drove to Tesco Lotus. We again tried to purchase a bottle of SangSom but when we got to the checkout we were told that we couldn't buy alcohol before 5pm. It was 4:50pm so we decided to wander around the store until it turned 5pm. This was a bad idea as we then ended up at the doughnut counter and sweet aisle! We returned to our bungalow and then sat in the restaurant where we got talking to an English couple who were staying in the bungalow next door. We were sat on an axe bed looking out to sea just as a huge gust of gale force wind blew through the restaurant. It was as if somebody had turned on a wind machine. It then started to rain but it didn't last long. We played a few games of cards and then Andrew went for a late night swim before bed.
