Wellington, North Island, New Zealand
We woke up to find the top of our duvet a little damp which made us remember that we hadn't followed the advice of Krispy by opening a window slightly during the night. It wasn't too wet though so we hoped that it would dry out during the day. We put the heater on immediately as it was bitterly cold and we didn't dare remove any part of our body from beneath the duvet. I even attempted to dry the front of my body whilst I was still in the shower as the shower block didn't have a door so it was open to the outside air. Once we were both ready we went to the kitchen area to make porridge for breakfast. It was so cold in the kitchen that immediately after we had dished out the porridge it formed a hard skin! We quickly ate and washed up before walking to the reception desk to use the phone. It was easy enough to book a place on the 'Bluebridge' ferry with our discount coupon, which meant the total cost was only $193. We then packed up our campervan and drove to the 'Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre' which was just outside of Blenheim. It was a bright sunny day but still very chilly, but I decided to take off my coat. This was a big mistake, which I realised after paying, as the member of staff pointed to a basket of hand warmers and proclaimed that it was very cold in the building. It certainly was and it was very dim. We were greeted by a huge aeroplane that was used during WWI. It wasn't long before a member of staff came to speak to us about the exhibits and told us that the film director Peter Jackson (LOTR) actually owned every single aircraft. It was so cold that we rushed around the place and we were honestly glad to reach the warmth of the cafe.

We hopped in our campervan and drove back to Blenheim centre to buy a sim card . We made a quick dash to Vodafone and then we were on our way to Picton to catch the ferry. It was quite a small town and so we soon came across the check-in point for the ferry crossing. We were directed to lane six where we had to wait in line until it was time to board. I managed to make a cheese sandwich whilst we were waiting as were starving. We then drove onto the ferry and made our way to the passenger lounge. It was quite an impressive ferry with leather sofas and chairs, as well as a large flat-screen TV and cafeteria. We decided to go and check out the view from the top deck once we had set off but we were soon back inside where it was a much more comfortable temperature. I began to watch the film 'Cool Runnings' but I ended up falling asleep. We finally pulled into Wellington harbour and an announcement informed us that we could return to our vehicle. We weren't looking forward to tackling city driving but the one-way system wasn't at all difficult and there was very little traffic on the road, considering it was a Saturday night . We headed for Lower Hutt as we had booked a powered site at 'Hutt Park - Top 10'. On the way we spotted a supermarket, called countdown, so we decided to buy some food before we reached the campsite as it was getting quite late. I spotted a whole cooked chicken for $5.45 so we bought it along with a crusty French stick. However, the chicken turned out to cost $12.99 as I had mistaken the price for the time the chicken was cooked in store! We were massively shocked at how expensive the food was to buy even in a supermarket. We debated buying a tin of Heinz baked beans but in the end we couldn't bring ourselves to pay one pound twenty five pence for one tin! We quickly realised that the campsite wasn't marked on our map so we rang the place to find out if we were anywhere near. We were given a rough direction but took the wrong turn a couple of times before we finally found the place. We were given site one and once we were parked up we set about making a sandwich whilst the chicken was still hot. It wasn't as cold as it had been the previous night on the south island and we could quite happily sit in the campervan without using the heater. I went for a hot shower before bed which warmed me up even further and I immediately fell asleep.
