Seattle to Portland via a car museum

Portland, Oregon, United States
Jet lag had us up early if not bright and after a healthy breakfast of pound cake we went to pick up our hire car. We thought it would be good to have a satnav in the hired vehicle and upgraded to a Dodge Charger. Alan got very excited as he finally got to drive an American muscle car. We drive a Skoda Octavia in the UK, a Dodge Charger is a very different kettle of fish.

Our first port of call was the Lemay America's Car Museum, in Tacoma . It's one of the largest private collections in the world and the largest automobile museum in America. What a fantastic collection of iconic American cars! Took lots of photos but will only show a small selection on here. Apart from cars, there was also a fascinating exhibition on the iconic Route 66.

After lunch we hit the road. Not the Route 66, but the I5,which took us straight to Portland in just over 2.5 hours. We are staying at the Arlington Club which has reciprocal rights with the Royal Overseas League in London. Very historic and elegant, just like us.

Dinner at Red Star, which serves American comfort food with the ingredients locally sourced/sauced. Seriously yummy (see photos). Today's useful fact: 85% of America's cranberries are grown in Oregon. So said our waiter, sorry, server.
