Time to bid farewell to the Arlington Club, to Portland and to Oregon as we headed north to Seattle. Sadly our plan to explore some of the coast were wildly optimistic in terms of time and distance so we had to rethink. We decided to visit Olympia, capital of Washington state. It always comes as a surprise to slightly dim Brits like me that the capital of a state is often not its most famous/largest city. Think Albany (NJ), Sacramento (CA), Harrisburg (PA). In fact that is the case in 33 states. So Olympia has a very impressive Capitol building and Temple of Justice but is otherwise unremarkable with a 'small town' feel. Today's fascinating fact: Olympia is only the 22nd most populous city in Washington. We did find a good Hawaiian restaurant, though :-).
Back on the road to SeaTac Airport to return our Dodge Charger to the very posh car rental facility - possibly a future holiday venue in its own right! Alan really enjoyed driving something big, powerful and very American
. Hamish just enjoyed how big and comfy it was.
We took the Light Link Rail into central Seattle and checked into the Sheraton where Hamish's conference will be taking place. We had just enough time to get our bearings and check out some restaurants before our dear friend and best man Antony arrived, delayed and jetlagged, from Paris. We went for an ethnic dinner - the Cheesecake Factory - which specialises in the sort of food that has made America what it is today.....

Heel benieuwd wat je allemaal gaat doen in Seattle! Ga je ook naar de Boeing fabriek? Dat staat wel op ons lijstje.
