Thursday, after a busy time in Nerja and Granada, Tom and I spent a quiet and wonderful day with Meredith - what we like to call our Nana and Grampie days. While Meredith caught up with her naps, and explored the garden with us, Jeni and Mark had the day to themselves and explored Mijas Pueblo. Friday was Mark's birthday, and we celebrated with Thai food for dinner. I wonder what would bring a Thai family all the way from Thailand, to settle and open a restaurant in the mountains of Spain? Saturday, Tom and Mark had an early morning tee time at the local Mijas Golf course. They came back, enthusiastic, with many tales of the different experiences they'd had. It was also Jen, Mark and Meredith's last full day in Spain before returning to PEI, so while the men were golfing, we walked into Mijas Pueblo to explore some more, and found a great spot for lunch. We saw a man riding his bike through the village, calling out something in Spanish. Later on, we found out that he was the local knife and scissor sharpener, who rides around calling out for work on Saturday mornings. When someone brings something to sharpen, he locks his back wheel and hooks up a belt which turns as he pedals (see the picture, as they say a picture's worth a thousand words).
Sunday, actually very early on Sunday morning, we said goodbye to Jen, Mark and Meredith
. We all got up at 3am so we could drop them off at the Malaga airport in time for a 6:45am flight. It was so difficult to say goodbye, especially as Meredith kept turning back to wave and call out "Bye". Through the marvels of the internet, we were able to follow their trip home via a programme called flight tracker, which tells when the plane is taxi-ing out to the runway, taking off, flying, how many flight hours left, and when they land - all in real time. Pretty fascinating, and good to know that they arrived home safely. All in all, it was a glorious week we spent together, building good memories and sharing many laughs - we miss them.
