First Hike into the Mountains above Mijas Pueblo

Mijas Pueblo, Andalucia, Spain and Canary Islands
Phew! We're exhausted! We're just back from our first real hike in the Sierra mountains above the village of Mijas Pueblo. For our first jaunt out, we'd decided on the red trail, supposedly the easiest one - just 2 hours long. We climbed up to the hermitage/church which had been used as a home for old Carmelite monks, and had a bird's eye view of Mijas Pueblo below us, the bull ring, and towns all the way down to the Mediterranean Sea. Maybe it was the heat of mid-day, but when we arrived back in the pueblo, we were just about done. We cut through the town, picked up some milk and smoked salmon at the Eroski mercado for lunch, ate, then enjoyed our siesta.
In the afternoon, we decided to see what was up over the mountain we'd just climbed . Hopping in the car, we drove up towards the next town called Coin. The scenery was bleak and beautiful at the same time. Up and over the mountains, we circled down to Marbella on the coast and back home again.
