Sometimes a plan doesn't come together - improvise

Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany
Had a good breakfast at Hotel Central at Heilbronn - it was pretty much like the other good ones. It was probably better thinking back, as it had extra cheeses and meats and bread rolls - and it had tomatoes and cucumber as well as boiled eggs.

I just lost 3 paragraphs of prose!

The hotel started breakfast early for us (at 7 .30) because our train was leaving at 8.03. We were there at 7.20 with our cases - and they were ready. Got to the station in plenty of time as it was only a 5 minute slow walk. Caught an RE train to Crailsheim and managed to get across the platform to the RE to Nuremberg. There were lots of walkers and bike riders on the train to Crailsheim. We got to Nuremberg at 10.18 - great!! We planned on going to the Nazi Rallying Grounds.

Got to the hotel and could go to our room straight away - another great. Then we asked about the Rallying Grounds and there was/is a rock concert on there. Mmmm. We loved this place last year, check the blog at http://blog.travelpod.com/travel-blog-entries/anne.nathan/1/1371749812/tpod.html
Funny, all the banks are closed. We asked the lady at the Toy Museum if it was a Public Holiday and she said no - but it is!

Saw these great artistes (or is it one and a dummy) in front of Lorenz Kirche; went inside St Sebald's Church which was badly damaged during the war and has been renovated . We spent a lot more time at the Imperial Castle this time. We saw the Deep Well, and walked a part of the wall amparts. Walked over Hangman's Bridge.

Came back via the island Vordel Insel Schutt - they were having summer at the beach there. They'd bought in a lot of white sand and a lot of deck chairs; lot's of food and drink places set up. Looked great fun, and we thought we might go back for dinner. Then on for a quick look at the ruins of St Katherine's Church, and then we headed down the old city wall because I wanted to see the Craftsmans Courtyard at Konigstor Tower - we semed to have missed it earlier today.

On the way we passed Kultur Garten - so stopped for a beer. Then went to the Craftsmans Courtyard to find it was closed for the Public Holiday - that's why we missed it earlier. Today's holiday was Whit Monday; we both checked school and public holidays before we left Australia too. Never mind - back to the Kultur Garten for another beer/wine! Another group there were going back to the rock concert any minute - it was too hot there, and the best bands didn't start for another 30 minutes . One of the ladies lives in London (she's German though) - so we're keeping an eye out for each other in the next few months!

We went back there for dinner and stayed to listen to the trio - which ended up being 5 . Fabulous night. The local people that were sitting near us, said that only about 5% of the people there would be tourists. We didn't leave til 10 pm. I can't remember what they played, but I thought of it as jazz. They played some Django Reinhardt. There was the calypso guy on the bongos in green & orange; a guy my age about on the squeeze box, then a guitar and a double bass and a violin.. There were two men filling me in on everything - both born in Nuremberg.

Bryan drank Weissenoher Bioland 0.5 litre and cost 3.20 (so it was like a Pils). I had white wine - hausschoppen (Franken, Weingut Probst) 0.2 litre and cost 3.30. We ate the little sausages with potato salad or sauerkraut & brot - called Nurnberger on the menu.
