Another hot day

Dresden, Saxony, Germany
Up early and ready to leave the hotel before 7 - a bit of a surprise after our night out. The train this morning had carriages going to different places on the one train. Just as well we were in the Dresden carriage, as we lost the rest of the train after about 30 minutes! There were 4 of us this time in the First class section. When the journey first started the conductress came in and gave us this big spiel - all in German of course. The two ladies nodded and made comments and we just looked blank. Apparently, the toilet in this carriage didn't work (the Dresden carriage was separate, couldn't walk through to the rest of the train), and we would change carriages soon. It wasn't until Hof 2 hours later, that we all got off and moved to another train.

We kept nodding off during this 4 hour trip - an RE train, which rocked like mad when it went fast . We passed through a lot of forest and then through farmland with large fields.

Got to Dresden hbf at midday. From the station there was an interesting walk down Prager strasse - until we went into a bank to change money. After queuing, we were told the only place to change money was back at the station! Back we went. I don't think we got a good exchange rate, but beggars can't be choosers. $300 got us 170/180 odd Euros. It was another hot day.

We walked to the VW Transparent Factory for the 15.00 tour with an English guide. Check it out on http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/about-us/company/factories/glass-factory .
It was very interesting - took almost 90 minutes. Cost us 4.50 Euros each (normally 7, but we had our Seniors' cards). Unfortunately, most of the workers had finished work, but we could still visualise how it would work. One car takes 5 days to be completed. Amazing.

Off walking again - heading for the Elbe. We walked past Frauenkirche down to the river; then over the Augustusbrucke; along Haupt strasse towards Albert Platz.

Missed kunsthofpassage - I think it must be in Neustadler Markt just over the bridge. I'd found a Kunsthandwerkenpassagen on the map and thought that must be it. How disappointing. The passage would have been fascinating - I'll have to just go and check out the photos on google!

Bryan wouldn't stop at a touristy place for a beer; neither of us wanted to sit in the sun. The next thing we were nearly back at the hotel, and it was after 17.30 - so ended up at the Irish Pub. Even had dinner there. Too footsore to do any more walking!
