Brasov to Bucharest

Bucharest, Romania
The internet is soooooo slow that I won't load anymore photos (there were only a couple to add).
Have had no internet, or it comes and goes, for days - well so it seems .

Loved Brasov in Romania. After breakfast (2 egg omelette & toast & small coffee) which was included in the price of - will be back & review the hotel. It was tops for the price - got a taxi to the old town. Cost 6 lei including tip - less than $A2 - for about 4 km.

Everything we saw in Brasov was clean and no smelly corners - this included our walk from the station to our hotel; around the bus station when we went to Bran; and the old town. Very impressed.

No time to write the details. We walked around as per usual. Catherine's Gate is to the left of the map (near the red arrow). While we were walking, lots of lycra clad bike riders passed us - coming from all directions. We thought some of them must have got lost in a race. HOWEVER - the race hadn't started! We found the starting place (see the sports oval type area on left of map) - lots and lots of cyclists. We watched the start at 10am and checked back there at 11 .15, but nobody had finished.

The road at the bottom of the map is through the trees - slightly elevated, so great views of the town.

Taxi back to the hotel and checked out at midday.

Good job we spent that 6 lei (less than $2) to reserve seats on the train to Bucharest. It was packed. Very scenic trip.

Our hotel, Hello Hotel, at Bucharest was close to the station - but not close to much else! We walked to the old town (took 40 minutes) for dinner. That only took us as far as university square. I gave up - lets eat! Walk back only took 30 minutes - I didn't want to be in the back streets after dark. From what I read in the guide book though, we were more likely to be attacked by the stray dogs than by muggers.
