We got an early start as we were going to book an Inter City train (at a cost of €6 each). Got to the station - all good until she said "That'll be €36". Whatha? No way we were paying that, so back to the original plan.
Train 1 - an Inter City (IC) which left at 7
.37 am. It was too fast to get to take in all the scenery.
We criss crossed the country a bit. The regional trains were all new and classy. Also rather fast, but as they stopped at every station enroute, we saw a lot.
Arrived at Les Eyzies at 6.08 pm.
Eyzies de Tayac
More than 400.000 years ago our ancestors settled in the lush green Vezere Valley. Today, Les Eyzies de Tayac and the surrounding area is one of the most interesting, fascinating and beautiful places in the world. We invite you to come and see and experience the area around Les Eyzies de Tayac, only then will you understand why our ancestors chose
this place as their home. In and around the town of Les Eyzies de Tayac are a series of
prehistoric rock dwellings, the caves include some of the most significant archaeological finds of the Upper Paleolithic (from about 40,000 to10,000 years ago) and Middle Paleolithic (200,000 to 40,000 years ago) periods they are especially noted for their extensive wall drawings. Les Eyzies is ideally situated in the the Vézère valley which contains 147 prehistoric sites dating from the Paleolithic and 25 decorated caves.
The "chambres" is just as I imagined it to be. Christiane and Jean-Paul are the proprieters.
N.B. I did make a note of where I took the photos - but I can't find the piece of paper. "C'est la vie."
