Left the rain behind

St-Malo, Brittany, France
Had a bit of a sleep in - but it was raining so it didn't matter. It was nice looking out the window over the harbour, despite the rain. After breakfast, we walked up to the car park to buy and display a parking ticket. [Cars cued up to take our spot - sorry guys.]

We then just hung around in the hotel room for another 90 minutes or so (catching up on emails and blogs and FB) . Still raining, so just took the car back to Avis near the railway station. That was an adventure - driving down narrow cobbled/paved streets with bollards on the sides and pedestrians who think its a mall.

The train didn't leave until 1pm - so we just sat in the station and read. On to Nantes. The stop over time wasn't long enough to go too far - a quick look at the canal. Bought some rolls (from a 'Paul's) to eat on the train.

The next train, to Rennes, had lots of room in First class. We ate our rolls and drank some wine. Perfect! The countryside was changing from large open fields to smaller and varied fields.

Third train was to St Malo and only took about 30 minutes. There were a lot of people going home from work. Got to St Malo about 6.30pm. Found the hotel, dropped the bags and headed to the old town. It was an enjoyable walk around the ramparts - amazing really.

By the time we'd had dinner and got back to the hotel it was after 10pm - but still light. The room in the hotel was so tiny, we had to stack our bags on top of each other. Everything else at this hotel was really good.
