It's Saturday - must be Warsaw

Warsaw, Central Poland, Poland
Caught the 10.11 train from Krakow. This was a TLK train - had 1st class but no frills. In our compartment the other 4 people were Polish. Apparently it's possible to get on the train without reserving a seat - you just have to stand up in the corridor if there are no spare seats. Two of the men in our carriage spoke English. We didn't talk a lot as the train was noisy, but it was fast too. When we got to Warsaw, Bryan rang our accomodation to arrange for someone to be there in an hour's time to give us the keys. Then we reserved our seats to get to Wroclaw.

Got to the apartment block at 2 .10, key man expected 2.35. At 3.10 the cleaning lady felt sorry for us and came over. She sorted it all out after a series of phone calls. The apartment was fabulous - on the 6th floor with aĺ mod cons (even a washing machine).

We headed off towards the restored old town. There was some sort of children's celebration going on everywhere we went. There was also a political demonstration or march. Warsaw was flattened during the war and was rebuilt. I thought I wasn't going to like the city - but I did. Loved it.

Once we'd made it to the big open space outside the Royal Castle, it was time for a beer and nibblies. The plate of cheese, cold meat etc was delicious. After watching the world go by for a while, we moved on to look at the view over the Vistula River (the beaches opposite and The Stadium); then on to the Old Town market square which was a bit "busy".

Back to our apartment pretty much by the same route. All the festivities had wound down and tidied away. An early start in the morning.
