Nimes

Nîmes, Languedoc-Roussillon, France
Checked the SNCF website at 7.30 - trains are okay! Checked again at 7.45 and it had been updated. The only way out of Le Puy en Velay today is that bus at 11.43 - back to St Etienne Chateaureux then Lyon we hope, then south (we hope).

Made it to Nimes . Arrived just after 7pm. Because of the train strike we stayed in Nimes all the following day. In the morning we first changed our train booking to Strasbourg as our train wasn't running.

Then we did a tour of the town checking out the Roman sites. On the map we are on the bottom right near the SNCF railway station. The tower is the top of the hill top left. T his walk took about 3 hours.

After a 2 hour rest at the hotel, we went and checked the Roman gate we'd missed. Not much of it left. Then did the old town tour. Its marked in a red dotted line on the map. I also took a photo of the tour itinerary.

Run out of time again!

It certainly looks a town worth the hassles to get to! I think you and Bryan need to do a Eurail sector just for France next year.

Yes, we loved Nimes. We'll be back for sure. It's nice and central for several other excursions too. And not BUSY! Unless we rent a house in the country with friends - now there's an idea!
