I’d ordered coffee for 7.30am and we both
had such a good sleep that it was room service knocking on the door which
wakened us. We must be near the kitchen as our coffee was nice and hot – often
it’s quite cold by the time we get it.
So we enjoyed that and then got showered
and dressed and headed up to Horizon court for breakfast. As we were walking in I spotted Nana. We met Nana on our very first Princess cruise
on the Diamond – she was our waitress in the dining room each night – she’s
from Thailand and tiny with the most infectious giggle you’ll ever hear. When we cruised on the Emerald Princess in
2014, we discovered by accident that she was on that ship but not in the dining
room which we used. But we went down
there one morning for breakfast and surprised her. She calls us Mama and Papa. We’ve been in touch from time to time via
Facebook and I contacted her recently to see if she was still on the Emerald. She was and messaged me the other day to say
she’d just been moved. But here she was
on breakfast duty up in Horizon.
She
didn’t see us and I called her – the look on her face and the big scream she
gave was priceless and then there was much hugging. She’s going to try and get a little break one
morning when we have breakfast so we can catch up properly.
After breakfast we headed ashore – there
were buses to take us back through the maze of containers to the cruise
terminal. We’d considered doing the Hop
on Hop off and went to get tickets. It
was pretty expensive at US$40 each but we were going to do it anyway but then
they wouldn’t accept credit cards and I didn’t have enough cash on me so we
ended up getting the free shuttle bus to downtown Buenos Aires and just had a
wander round there checking out the people and the shops and just generally
enjoying the ambience. One of the things
which constantly amazed us is the number of trees and huge park areas in the
middle of the city. It’s so lovely to
see. After wandering round for a couple
of hours we caught the shuttle back to the cruise terminal and had a coffee in
the café there so I could get some internet.
But since there were so many there with the same idea it was incredibly
slow and I couldn’t get me pictures to load at all. So we headed back on board and I thought the
ships internet might be reasonably fast today since we were in port so I logged
on there and was able to get the pics loaded and got the blog post
published.
We headed down to the International Café
for a spot of lunch – Craig likes the little pies the have down there and I’m
pretty partial to the little quiches they have there which along with a green
salad makes for a tasty light lunch.
We’re now back in the cabin – watching an interesting documentary about
South America and then shortly after we’ve
got the Muster drill before sailaway at around 6pm.
We duly attended the muster which seemed to
take a while but probably provided more information than we’ve ever had before –
hopeful none of it required! We took our
lifejackets back to the cabin and then headed for Crooners for an ale before tea.
We got chatting to a few different people there and the time passed
quickly until we had to go and get changed for dinner.
We did the usual share for dinner and were
with 3 other American couples – all now retired – a high court judge, a lawyer,
a high school principal, two nurses and a public relations officer so a very
interesting bunch and we had great conversations. I had delicious prawn and scallop cocktail,
followed by delicious fish and then amazing key lime pie for dessert – one of
our faves. There was a show on but we’d
have had to race from dinner without dessert – and you can guess why we didn’t. So we had a leisurely finish to our meal
along with one of the other couples and then went down to Crooners where once
again we chatted to some great folks. We’ve
got an early start in the morning in Montevideo so we didn’t hang around too
long and came up to bed.
