We were knackered after our flight with the two idiots, finally got to our hotel and needed to crash for a bit. Our room was on the seventh floor - we staggered in ready to crash and rat-a-tat-tat, there was a jackhammer practically outside our room on the building next door. Despite that we still managed to get a little snooze in for an hour or so. We freshened up then headed out to the Central Market which was about a kilometre away. Familiar sights and smells awaited us, as in many Asian markets. Lots of stalls selling all manner of things from pots to fresh produce - amazing fruits and various critters bound for someone's dinner table.
We met our leader 'Long' and our group, nine of us in total
. We learnt a bit about each other and a bit about Long. He essentially supports his siblings and their families (he was one of nine). He works between his family farm where they grow rice, and his bar in Siem Reap. He works for Intrepid when he needs funds.
We went out to dinner together to a restaurant (Romdeng) where street kids can learn hospitality skills to improve their lives. We had fried tarantula...crunchy, potato like with a pepper dipping sauce. We also had Pork laarb, amok (fish curry), soup with red ants (I'd rather eat tarantula!) and fried fish. Dessert was a pineapple pancake with pandanus ice cream. Cost us about $5.50 US each - with drinks.
After dinner it was time to crash good and proper.
