Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Nice lie-in until 8:30 ish. 25 c is expected high of the day but still a bit chilly when we step out. Head west of Kings Street to find the bakery Forno Cultura .... on the way we stop into a sports equipment co-op to look for nose plugs. (we do this throughout the day until Derek finally finds some). We also stop by a coffee roasters for a rather harsh tasing macchiato and some coffee beans, go to Soma, a very fine chocolate shop where Derek discovers white chcolate brulee ... and finally hit the bakery, which is everything we hoped it would be. Had an eggs in basket thing and a peach doughnut thing and some palmiers. All good.
Head back on Queen Street toward Kensington Market (yeah, they think they are English) area - hippie clothing and a strange assortment of south american foods, rasta pasta, vegany places and a bar called thirst and miserable. Derek has some home made soft serve. We also find moonbean coffee (pretty decent macchiatto) and head across chinatown to the AGO where henry matisse and francis bacon were showing. building designed by frank gehry, so weird from outside but nice and airy on the inside. must look into canadian artist coxville.
back into chinatown for a massage at tuina.ca - nice and relaxing but pricy for CT. walked back to potentially relax before dinner at 9. went for a quick swim. dinner at buca was v good - had a starter or dandelion greens, aged ricotta and cold pressed cherry juice, break knots followed by pasta w asparagus pesto, rock shrimp and caviar. dessert was a strawberry semifreddo v nice.
waddle back to the hotel.
