Get my kicks on Route 66

Tusayan, Arizona, United States
Left Vegas and headed for Sedona, stopped at Kingman for a drink at a diner we had visited 8 years earlier, still the same. Headed down Route 66 but kept missing the turn offs , it's a bit overrated anyway.

Bloody misfire started again nothing too bad just enough to keep me worried.

On the spur of the moment Tracy decided it would be good to drop in on the Grand Canyon (I thought this had been a joint decision as we were so close), we head north and arrived just outside the park and to re-adjust from 4 nights in Vegas . Booked in at a campsite for 24 bucks ( less than 2 cocktails in Vegas) we pitched the tent and headed to the canyon just in time to miss the sunset and as is usual headed out of the park in the dark.

In 8'years it is surprising how things change our memory was you drive on a straight road to the canyon til if you drive any more you fall in not the case. It took so long trying to get through the car park we miss the sunset. Oh well the light was still amazing it was definitely worth the change of plan, that first glimpse still is breath taking.

Thought we would get back before it was pitch black, but someone turned the sun switch off. We end up again riding at night.

Dinner at the local steak house, queue to get in must be a good sign. We both ordered the smallest steak which 8oz everything else was huge. Should have read the menu properly as we got ground steak so a large burger. It was ok.

Our camp site was behind the Main Street walking distance this always going to be a challenge as we need to be able to get somewhere to eat and drink often we do not want to get back on the bike..

It was a long night....
