Over the Devils Backbone

El Rosario, Sinaloa, Mexico
Watched race unfortunately Rossi crashed so took the edge off the start of day.

Durango is a great place to walk around.

Day starts sunny and warm, Hotel Casablanca is just off the main square and the center historico. It is Sunday and as many places have been, early on any day of the week, it has a sleepy air to it. we walk round to find a cafe or coffee shop all closed. Eventually find a small hotel starting to serve desanyo great coffee again.

Nickname(s): Tierra del Cine (Movie Land) earnt because of all the western movies filmed here in the 50/60s

Durango stands at an altitude of 1,880 meters (6,170 ft). Wonder if we are ever going to come down from the mountains.

Heading out of town towards Mazatlan and the Devils Backbone. A toll road now replaces the very difficult minor road which used to take 3 to 4 days to drive and was in the heart of drug smuggling and bandit country. The highway has been cut through the countryside and mountain tops series of tunnels and suspension bridges individually all a feat of engineering ,collectively it is quite incredible. Views are quite breathtaking pictures do not show the incredible beauty of the area. It takes us about 3 hours to drive

Still cannot believe this is Mexico where is the desert .

I feel this is an appropriate moment to mention the navigation we managed to head down hill ok. Temperature was rising fast may be it was this that effected the GPS who knows. We had had a few problems on other days as it seems unless you know the state/county the place is in the navigation is not very accurate. however it happened we end up heading back North. Now Tom does not like turning round when he finds that we have gone more than 20 miles in the wrong direction he was not best pleased. It is fortunate that Lindsay had managed to stop us otherwise we would have ended up back at Nogalas.

The temperature getting the better of everyone, the scenery had lost some of its charm now seemed to be crossing large flat marshes we stop for fuel in El Rosario. Taking refuge in the garage shop and cool down we decide to look for a hotel.
Few options, must admit what I had seen of the town was a bit grim however not to be deterred we ride on a bit. End of town 3 options not happy about the secure parking we turn round. In doing so we see hotel ........... From a different angle it looked great. we get a price $mx

Sometimes things work out this hotel not only had secure parking but it had a bar and restaurant. And a swimming pool full of kids
