Off into the outback - day trip to Zamora

Loja, Ecuador
Going to head off in to the boondocks today.

Parque Nacional Podocarpus which is supposed to be one of the most beautiful in the Andes. It protects habitats at high altitudes down to rain forest near a town called Zamora so this is where we are going to head. Not sure if the road is paved but we give it a go. As normal the weather closes in fortunately this just appears to be as we go over the pass to the next valley but again we are treated to some Andean fog.

Once this clears we have some amazing views again deep river valleys lush tropical vegetation then barren high peaks.

As we near Zamora we join the back of a traffic queue, seems they have been there for a while so we sneak round them eventually making it to the front where we are confronted with a whole hill side which has slipped into the valley below. Workers where trying to move and stabilise the fall. Seem to be a fairly common occurrence. We wait with the rest to be let through.

Zamora is a bit of a forgotten town we could not find the park entrance and even struggled to find some where for a coffee, not big on coffee shops in Ecuador. The river frontage is all being re built probably because of a land slip however it is going to be a nice place one day. Where you can sit watch the humming birds and sip coffee well watch the birds any way.

We ride back via the land slip.

After the ride a cervesa in the bar playing the 60 juke box with 45s, the only name we recognised was Julio Enjlases
