Florentino Ameghino Department, Chubut, Argentina
Fortunately the wind died down so last night was OK. Music from somewhere started playing at stupid o'clock however Tom slept through it all.
Not the greatest of campsites great view over the bay but that was all it had going for it.so we pack up again.
Breakfast in town we decide to see the penguins two choices either the peninsula Valdez or back 100 miles to Punta Tomba which has the largest Magellan Penguin Sanctuary in South America.

Lindsay and Marion decide to keep going to BA he is concerned about his tyres lasting. We decided ride back, we check in at a nearby hotel drop the camping gear and the bags and head back a hundred miles.

The wind was incredible how we did not get blown over I really do not know. What a difference it made not having the bags on, the buffeting was horrible. At least the road was paved most of the way until you need to cut across to the coast.

The Penguins are at the end of a 30km gravel road which after the last couple of weeks was not so bad although a bit sandy.

They have spread their colony over a huge area from the beach up the dunes into the brush and gorse. The babies have burrowed into holes under the gorse to keep away from the gulls. There are penguins everywhere heads popping out of holes or around bushes. They are not the least bit bothered about us walking along with them. They even pose for photos. We walk the length of the board walk to the waters edge where even more penguins have collected along with giant petrels and an assortment of other see birds.

The wind has changed direction and we were in for another bumpy ride back. Added to this two large storms where battling it out in front of us. We had hoped that the road would take us away from this but no such luck so we go a bit of a soaking fortunately back on the paved road. This did not last too long and the wind was so strong that we were dry in no time. When we arrived back in town they were coping with the effects of these storm which had whipped up all the dust the town looked like it was engulfed in fog.

By the time we went to dinner the wind had dropped bringing with it a strange calm not many people about. We were recommended a restaurant behind the hotel which was heaving we had to queue a great meal shame I can not remember the name.
