A day of decisions

Tom -Bike taken today to BMW for a diagnosis.
 
Not a great result as actually worse than expected and no longer rideable front and back wheel bearings plus the drive shaft. Lucky we got the BA.

 
As is my experience of BMW in Central and South America they are helpful and can fix it but parts will take 40 day's. and will be very expensive

If BMW are ever going to make an impression here they have to sort the parts issue out.

Along with bearings and drive shaft, the gear indicator potentiometer is knacked which makes starting the bike a hit and miss chore. The rear shock is leaking and I should get the clutch replaced before tackling Asia

I have to make a decision either send the bike to Sydney and have all the required repairs done or cut my losses and ship the bike home and get a new one for the second half of our journey.

After long discussions with Lindsay over a few gin & tonics and weighing off the cost of repairs and still having a bike which has done 87000 miles against a new bike which should be more reliable I decide to get a new bike.
Even though I wanted to ride my bike round the world the hassle and costs of breaking down is a real bummer and thoughts of breaking down in Mongolia is something I would rather avoid.

So with mixed emotions of ditching my old friend versus buying a new bike I started surfing the BMW dealers for a new bike of the right spe
