The Olga's

Yulara, Northern Territory, Australia
Morning starts with early morning Moto GP. This place is quite unusual as we can sit in the tent and still be on wifi Tom happy moto GP outdoor viewing.

By 9am the sun is streaming into our tent and the temperature rises fast. We go over to the centre for breakfast not much choice but the coffee is good.

Ride to the Olgas and the wind cave. This is a 3-4km walk right through the centre of the giant red rocks. Easy path to start then gradient steepens and the path is made up of huge pebbles. Not the best day to chose to wear open shoes.
Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) is an area of deep cultural significance to the traditional owners the Anangu. They lease the area back to Parks Australia seems to be a bit of cause for discussion with some Australians as to the amount of money they are given and then what they do with it.
The Olgas are a group of rounded rocks all pushed together. There are 36 huge boulders shoulder to shoulder forming deep valleys and steep-sided gorges this what we walk through in the midday sun. It is quite an amazing walk as you are right along side the boulders the shear size of them is incredible.

On our way back we detour to circuit Uluru another incredible sight. You can get much closer that I realised, ride or cycle right around the base. There are cables and stairs to allow you to walk to the top. The Anangu do not climb as the area is sacred and ask tourists not too either.

We didn't, could pretend it was out of respect however if truth be told it was more to do with the temperature. So another time may be.
