Katherine, Northern Territory, Australia
Tom and Lindsay were up early to watch the moto GP at the the coffee club with a promise to bring me back a coffee. They returned so full of excitement, Valentino Rossi had won the race. My coffee was forgotten.

Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Valentino

Ride to Katherine was back down a road previously travelled not much has changed in a few days. At Adelaide river road house we stopped for a bite unfortunately it was not as appealing as on the way up we must have been hungry then. Just outside the town was the railway museum we took the tourist route round to get us of the main route and away from the trucks. The narrow road wound through the rolling countryside small trees long golden grass reminding us of the south of France as the trees could easily be olives. First proper sighting of a Kangaroo and a brush fire. You never can be certain if it is a controlled fire on one you should be reporting any how someone else had stopped.

Stopped again at Pine Creek lovely little coffee shop pub next door if needed. Has a shady cool seating area where you can watch the world go by. Met a couple we had spoken too at Florence falls yesterday, they had been out for a drive. They gave us some good info places to see and where to stay in Katherine .

Katherine seems to have its fair share of locals, just hanging around under trees or in the shade with nothing better to do. It is vey hot but even so you just think they should be doing something else.

We had been recommended a place to stay so arriving in Katherine we went there first. Looked a bit like a holiday camp but it had a restaurant and it was away from the centre of town. The price was high $165 plus pay Internet we tried to get a discount and were told basically take it or leave it. Mm mm nothing like a challenge and having the feeling we were being ripped off we went back to town. Pine tree Motel formally a Best Western $110 free wifi perfect even could get a beer. We sat by the pool and put the world to rights.

As dusk fell so the bats arrived amazing sight hundreds of huge bats silently flying towards the river.
