Swim with the turtles

Airlie Beach, Queensland, Australia
Early morning walk round to the marina for our day trip. Various tours go from here and everyone mills around until their boat is called. Ours is a small boat taking 8 people to a reef just at the top of the Whitsundays. It is a beautiful day sea turquoise blue. Takes a couple of hours to get across giving plenty of time to sun bathe or chat to the other guests.
As we are mooring up so the turtles appear not just one this time they all surface for a time and then head below.

Once at the reef we have to don stinger suits very fetching. they take us across to Black island a small outcrop of rocks part of the Whitsundays. As we are climbing into the tender so the bat fish are already clambering round the back of the boat looking for food. Swimming this time is from the beach we are shown where the reef is where we can go.

We go in search of a turtle. We find one munching away at a lump of weed does not appear bothered that we are watching. In a blink of an eye he has gone which was a shame as we would have watched for ages.

The fish were a lot smaller here and more colourful. Blues yellows and green. The coral also seems in much better condition ranging in all shapes and sizes.

Lunch on the island, then a sail back, what a wonderful day
