Tom rides the Dobie bus

Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia
Well today was always going to be a long one however, today it seems everyone wanted to talk to us. We started at the motel with the manager giving us a route to follow up into the hills with an off road section. We stop for a coffee in a little outback town. Small convenience store with a bakery next door. The coffee was really good. A guy driving past (Peter ) stopped as he saw the bike with UK plates he moved from Lancaster 25 years ago. Our quick coffee lasted an hour. Our road winds up and down round tight blind bends though farm land and craggy park land. We stop for fuel and again a chat a guy riding a Harley whose dad was English who had been born in 1890 or something similar apparently was 79 when his son was born. He laughed at our reaction not sure if he had been sniffing something. Then Debs stopped also riding a Harley fortunately she did not hang around so off we go again. Finally we get to the trail and the road is closed due to bridge damage. Possible happened in the floods following the cyclone a week ago. The detour is 20km longer
It is getting late we know we are going to be riding in the dark.

At last we arrive at the motel 7pm they have waited for us to arrive before closing up which was a relief. Checked in they even offered us a lift to the boat club for something to eat. This turns out to be the local social club at the marina. Entertainment every night ( the syrups have emigrated) a restaurant plus a bar and cafe. I think the view of the marina and the whaling trip boats would be great however it was dark. The food was pretty good and great value. No wonders all the olds of Hervey Bay come here. The clincher is the free shuttle bus which Tom and I ride on the way back even leading the community singing.
